Vimeo Unblocker

Vimeo Unblocker is a Firefox Add-on which allows you to watch blocked Vimeo videos, both on Vimeo.com and other sites as well.

The idea behind creating this extension is to provide artists the freedom to access artwork from Vimeo which were blocked pursuant to Court orders or on the directions issued by the Department of Telecommunications. I am in no way against court orders of blocking sites encouraging piracy but I believe not much though was given while blocking Vimeo in India. Vimeo is a great site for sharing and discussing artworks with artists around the world. This only encourages professional development and not piracy, yet if some people are uploading illegal  content on Vimeo, its a shame.

Installation

Download the zip file from this page and extract the file named vimeounblocker@keysnclicks.com.xpi  anywhere on your drive. Drag and drop this on your Firefox window. Firefox will notify you of extension installation.

After installing and restarting Firefox you will see this     button on the addons toolbar. If addon toolbar is not visible you can show it from View -> Toolbars -> Add-on Bar or by pressing Ctrl+/. Apart from this you will also find a menu item “Run Vimeo Unblocker” added under Tools menu.

Once you are on Vimeo.com wait until you see the Vimeo player loaded on the desired video page. Once the page and the player is fully loaded, click the Vimeo Unblocker button on the Add-on toolbar or press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V. You can also run unblocker from the Tools Menu -> Run Vimeo Unblocker.

Once you run unblocker you will see the Vimeo player disappearing for a second and reappearing. That’s it! now you can play the video as usual.

Usage on any other site

If you are trying to view Vimeo video embedded on any other site than Vimeo.com then you may see the following message “This website/URL has been blocked until further notice either pursuant to Court orders or on the Directions issued by the Department of Telecommunications“. Once you see this message, just click the unblocker button or press the shortcut key combination or run unblocked from the tools menu. The above mentioned message will hide and you will see the Vimeo player instead.
